History Of Mizero Tss

MIZERO TECHNICAL SECONDARY SCHOOL (MIZERO TSS) is a Jesuit school located in the Western Province of Rwanda, in Ruzisi District, Kamembe Sector. The school started as a Centre catering for the 1994 genocide orphans who were accommodated within the Jesuit novitiate premises. Years later, the former orphanage was transformed into a vocational training center, with the aim of helping genocide orphans unable to attend to classical education, to learn some technical skills such as tailoring, culinary art, plumbing, and construction. Today, the school continues to welcome young girls and boys, particularly those from moderate and poor families, especially young girls as they are the most vulnerable.

Today, the Government of Rwanda, through the Ministry of Education and Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) intends to increase significantly the number of students in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TSS) schools to help young women and men to study more practical and competitive skills to become job creators for themselves and for their peers instead of graduating as job seekers. “Mizero” means “Hope”. To give hope to the young women and men whose future depend on quality education and considering the need of increasing both the number of students and quality of education, Jesuits established expansion project for the school. Although the expansion project is still on, the school enrolled 470 students in three trades such as Building Construction, Software Development, and Food and Beverage Operations. 25 qualified trainers help students to acquire quality knowledge and practical skills needed of the market space. 6 administration staff and 8 supporting staff help in wellbeing of the students.

Although the school started long ago, three last years when the expansion project started with the boarding facilities the number of those beneficiating from the quality education provided the three trades has been increasing each year. Our graduates of the academic year 2023/2024 all passed National exams with success. Most of them have got jobs, others are waiting for universities entry. We intend to enroll up to 600 students who will be preparing for their hope-filled future at MIZERO TSS for next year.
